Katowice, Poland, May 23, 2024 – Students and mentors from the Faculty of Agriculture have successfully brought home three prestigious awards at the 17th International Invention and Innovation Show (INTARG), held at the International Congress Centre in Katowice, Poland, from May 21 to 23, 2024. The event featured participants from 33 countries, showcasing various innovations in technology, products, services, and industrial solutions.
INTARG is an international platform for the exhibition of inventions and innovations, covering new technologies, environment, health, medicine, and everyday life. The victory of the students and lecturers from the Faculty of Agriculture in this competition demonstrates their excellence and creativity on the global stage.
Meanwhile, students from the Faculty of Agriculture, Muhammad Ikram bin Marozan (Year 4, Bachelor of Science in Plantation Management) and Alisa Hanim binti Mohd Nadzir (Year 2, Bachelor of Science in Horticulture), won the Silver Medal Award by INTARG. Their project, Tapai Maromaro, introduced an innovation for extending the shelf life of cassava through a fermentation process. This idea aims to assist farmers facing difficulties in marketing their crops, thereby creating job opportunities and additional income for the local community.
The No-Till Farming Project (PTC), guided by lecturers from the Faculty of Agriculture led by Dr. Nur Bahiah Mohamed Haris, along with Dr. Jasmin Arif Shah, Ahmad Shukry bin Yahya (Master of Science in Agriculture student), and Ibrahim Martibi (Project Mentor), introduced a social entrepreneurship innovation that transforms kitchen waste into compost to produce organic vegetables in a single farming container. Involved in this project was Adibnur Faaezah binti Abd Razak, a Year 3 student from the Faculty of Biotechnology and Biomolecular Sciences, specializing in Cell and Molecular Biology, who successfully won two awards: The Best Invention Award by the First Institute of Researchers and Inventors in Iran and the Gold Medal Award by INTARG.
Congratulations are extended to the involved students and the team of lecturers and mentors who provided guidance and support, bringing honor to Malaysia on the international stage. This success proves that the innovation and creativity of UPM students can compete globally.
