UPM Agriculture Student Represents Malaysia at ISLMS 2025 in Hungary, Strengthens Commitment Towards Global Sustainability
 
Szeged, Hungary – A student from the Faculty of Agriculture, Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), Umar Akhtar bin Ab Malek, pursuing a Bachelor of Agribusiness Science with Honours, proudly represented UPM at The 3rd International Student Leaders Meeting on Sustainability (ISLMS 2025) held from 10 to 12 April 2025 at the University of Szeged, Hungary.
 
 
This prestigious international programme, organised by UI GreenMetric in collaboration with the University of Szeged, gathered 70 student leaders from around the world to explore challenges and pathways towards a sustainable future, in line with the theme "Challenge and Pathway to a Sustainable Future."
 
Throughout the three-day programme, Umar actively participated in various impactful activities including:
- International Conferences and Knowledge-Sharing Sessions on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)
- Focus Group Discussions and Leadership Dialogues
- Drafting and Declaration of the International Youth Statement on Sustainability
- Field Visits to Local Sustainability Projects in Szeged
Cultural Exchange and International Networking Activities
 
As a representative of UPM—ranked among the world’s top green universities in the UI GreenMetric World University Ranking—Umar had the opportunity to share the university’s achievements and best practices in sustainable campus management and green innovation such as Projek Pertanian Tanpa Cangkul, College Agriculture Project such as Gempur Tani Kosas, Festival of Food Security.
 
 
 
"Representing UPM on a global platform was truly an honour. This programme gave me invaluable insights into global environmental challenges and the importance of youth leadership in driving sustainable solutions. I am now more motivated than ever to bring back what I’ve learned and contribute to ongoing sustainability efforts within UPM and beyond," said Umar.
 
 
This international participation marks an important milestone in UPM’s ongoing efforts to empower its students with global exposure, leadership skills, and a strong sense of environmental responsibility—reflecting the university’s commitment to shaping future-ready graduates and contributing to the global sustainability agenda.
