INTRODUCTION |

|
The Master of Food Security program offers five specializations namely Agriculture and Animal Science, Economics and Policy, Food Science, Forestry, and Climate Science which will be offered in collaboration with the Faculty of Agriculture, the Faculty of Food Science and Technology, and the Faculty of Forestry and Environment. This program aims to produce highly knowledgeable professionals in the field of food security and serve as a foundation for advancing the national agenda. It will also act as a feeder program to prepare candidates for PhD studies. The program is developed through a collaborative effort involving five (5) universities in ASEAN under the University Consortium (UC), including UPM. This reflects recognition of UPM’s postgraduate programs and expertise in the field. |

**Candidates without qualifications in the relevant field or work experience in the relevant field must undergo the appropriate pre-requisite course (SST4304 Climate Change and Agriculture) |

PROGRAMME STRUCTURE |
|
|||||||||||||||||||||
|
Food Security and Food Systems in Dynamic Environment (FST5008, 3 credits) This course covers the concepts of food security and food systems, including production and processing. The socioeconomic impact of food security will also be discussed. Sustainability Assessment in Agriculture Production and Food Processing (PLP5007, 2 credits) This course includes the evaluation of the application of sustainable agricultural and food processing techniques to enhance productivity and the quality of agricultural products. The assessment is conducted through communication between students and stakeholders directly involved in agriculture and food processing. Climate Change and Its Impacts on Agriculture and Natural Resources (ESC5401, 3 credits) This course covers the science of climate change, its causes, signs, and impacts on natural resources and agricultural systems. Adaptation and mitigation strategies will be discussed. Impact Assessment and Evaluation of Projects and Policies (PPT5502, 3 credits) This course covers theories and techniques in planning and evaluating sustainable agricultural projects and policies. Issues, impacts, and policies related to sustainable agricultural projects will be discussed. Research Methods (SPS5901, 3 credits) This course covers best practices in conducting postgraduate research. It provides an overview of research methods, research proposals, characteristics of scientific research, research design, thesis writing, oral presentations, and ethical considerations in research. Seminar (SPS5903, 1 credit) This course involves the preparation and presentation of a research proposal. Research Dissertation (SPS5988, 12 credits) This course covers the design and implementation of a scientific research project related to the chosen field of study. A systematic approach to data generation through appropriate design, data collection, and analysis, as well as presentation, is emphasized. |
